Got one at Home Depot on sale. I've it for about 3 months now and so far I'm very happy with the performance. I use Costco HE soap (I've read this isn't the best soap) and most of the time I wash stuff on "NORMAL", warm water and double rinse (soap allergy.) If you wash big items (rugs, blankets, etc...) you MUST set the cycle to "BULKY". That way it will fill the tub up all the way like an old style washer.
I've read complaints from people that it doesn't get your clothes clean and my experience is that it gets them CLEANER than any washer I've used (that's three counting this one.) Even my girlfriend noticed and was impressed with it's cleaning ability. Compared to my old washer it's very quiet and it gets the clothes quite dry in the spin. My dryer time has decreased from an hour to 35 minutes. It also holds a lot of clothes compared to my old washer. It's not too tall and that makes it easier to load and unload compared to the old GE (70's, 80's model??) I had.
I did get the extended warranty because my research showed that modern washers have a 7% - 10% failure rate within the first five years. That's not too good, but you don't have much choice if you need a new washer. Anyway, mine hasn't broken down. I do about two loads a week. My understanding is that you must be very careful not to allow any small items to get in the wash because they'll get sucked into the pump and wreck it, so make sure to check all the clothes pockets before you wash! The manual has a note about this too. One other small note: The spin is really powerful and will really scrunch up the clothes. If you machine dry it's not a problem, but if you want to line dry them you might have problems getting them straightened out. You can reduce the spin power with the proper setting.

I returned this machine after four days of really trying to get it to actually clean my laundry. My comments are not a slam towards Whirlpool but the concept of washing is too little of water. The clothes do not move around (top to bottom) like a normal high water agitator. The clothes on the bottom stay there and beat really beat up by the almost non-existent agitator while the clothes on top get no action at all.
The rinsing is terrible and you end up with soap and dirt still in the clothes. I know this because after a load finished, I ran it again without adding any soap and I saw a soap film on the top of the water left over from the first run. And I did use the 'high efficiency' (HE) soap which has very little suds as recommended in the manual. PS, it costs more! And isn't it convenient that if there aren't any suds, you would be hard pressed to discover that the rinsing does not do well. Forget it if you have pets. There is not enough water to float away any hair or lint. You will have to trust your dryer to get all that out.
You can use the 'bulky' cycle setting to raise the water somewhat and also add a second rinse cycle but guess what........ you are no longer 'green' and saving water or energy! In addition, with all the extra settings to try and get the clothes actually clean, the time to do one load is stupid slow.
Bottom line is that you DO need water to clean your laundry. I ended up with a tried and true, 'select my own water level' machine with a double action agitator. Now I get clean clothes every time, quickly and with a machine that costs less!
Do the math!

I've had this washer for 2 years and have had no issues with it at all. Very quiet, uses very little water and can wash large items like blankets with ease. We have 4 people in the house so as you can imagine this machine has seen a lot of useage.

ENERGY STAR qualified to meet the Department of Energy standards for energy efficiency.
Direct Inject Wash System
Prior to the start of wash cycles, a highly concentrated dose of detergent is injected into fabrics.
Works to penetrate stains and pre-treat soil.
Only when the entire load has been treated with the concentrated cleaning lather does the wash cycle begin.
6th Sense Technology
As soon as the wash cycle is started, washers use various sensors to determine the size of the load and precisely how much water is needed to clean it.
Heat sensors then monitor the temperature, and make sure water is warmed gradually to make cleaning enzymes optimally effective.
Suds sensors also work to prevent over sudsing in the low water wash system.
Care Control Temperature Management
Adjusts the cold and hot water inlets to reach temperatures that are warm enough to dissolve detergents.
But kept from overheating to help reduce shrinking and/or color bleeding.
Quiet Wash Plus Noise Reduction System
Keep operational sounds inside the washer and out of living areas with sound-absorbing materials around the wash basket of the drum.
Stainless Steel Wash Drum
The interior of the washer features a stainless steel basket that resists odors, rusting, or chipping.
It's smooth enough to gently handle fabrics and durable enough to stay looking new.
9 Automatic Cycles
Whitest Whites Cycle
Heated wash water, coupled with the accuracy of the Smart Bleach dispensing system.
Helps ensure loads of whites receive optimal cleaning performance.
4 Water Temperatures
Estimated Time Remaining with Cycle Status Lights
The Add-a-Garment light on the washer's control panel illuminates for the first 8 minutes of the wash cycle.
A convenient reminder that forgotten items can still be added to the load in progress.
